The Daily Record has named Harford Mutual Insurance Group as a recipient of a 2024 Empowering Women Award. This is Harford Mutual’s second year in a row receiving the award. Empowering Women winners will be honored at The Daily Record’s Women’s Leadership Summit on Oct. 22 at the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

The Empowering Women Awards recognize companies and organizations that show a strong commitment to supporting and elevating women in Maryland. Judges reviewed each nominee’s application and letters of reference and evaluated the information relative to the company’s resources.

“We are truly honored to receive the Empowering Women Award for a second consecutive year,” said Steve Linkous, President & CEO of Harford Mutual Insurance Group. “This award reaffirms our commitment to advancing women’s careers and supporting women both within our organization and in the community.”

Honorees demonstrate a track record of hiring and promoting women; support programs to mentor women in their organizations and address inequalities; show a strong record of women on the company’s board or in C-suite positions; and establish DEI programs and philanthropic efforts to support women.

Harford Mutual champions women within the organization and in the community. At the company, 59% of the employees are women, and 52% of the managers/supervisors are women. Harford Mutual has 13 officers and five are women, including the Senior Vice President/CFO & Treasurer, Vice President/General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer, and recently promoted Assistant Vice President of Finance and Assistant Vice President/Chief Actuary.

The company also supports numerous professional development opportunities for women. Five employees have completed the Towson University Professional Leadership Program for Women, six have graduated from the Harford Leadership Academy, and 11 have participated in the Sandler Training Program.

In addition to these internal initiatives, Harford Mutual actively engages in community efforts that uplift and highlight women. It contributes to organizations that champion women’s rights, education, and well-being, such as The Center for Women & Families in Louisville, KY, The Char Hope Foundation in Pylesville, Md., and the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition in Wilmington, DE. The company is also a longtime supporter of the ATHENA Scholarship at Harford Community College and a sponsor of the Harford County Commission for Women’s “Leading Women Awards.”

“The 2024 Empowering Women honorees invest in, elevate and support women leaders throughout the state. They demonstrate tangible, innovative efforts to assist women in taking on new opportunities in business and in the community,” said Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, managing director of BridgeTower Media/The Daily Record. “We are pleased to honor these organizations that show a strong commitment to women leaders in Maryland.”

Winners will be profiled in a special magazine that will be inserted into the Oct. 23 issue of The Daily Record and will be available online at Empowering Women – Maryland Daily Record (thedailyrecord.com).
